I was contemplating a purchase recently when it came to my attention
that the item in question cost 44 dollars .
that the item in question cost 44 dollars .
I must admit that this fact did indeed contribute to my eventual
decision to forgo the purchase.
At this juncture, I will spare you all a discussion regarding the
algorithm and thought process which guides my consumerism. Another
talk for another time.
Rather, I'm somewhat concerned that a dedicated rationalist such as
myself should choose to be influenced by such things as numerology.
It hardly matters when it comes to piddling matters like whether or
not I'll buy a certain sweater or not. But what if it creeps into
more significant decisions I may be called on to make?
Doesn't price affect rational behaviour?
But I have an irrational aversion to the number 4. I would have been more likely to buy the item if it had been $45!
